Last season’s finalist Paris Saint Germain renewed their rivalry once more, when they lock horns at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday at the quarter-finals stage of the UEFA Champions League.
With both teams in great form and on course to lift their respective league title, it was going to be an emphatic, entertaining game full of goals, and it began as expected.
Paris Saint Germain struck first through Barcelona’s destroyer, Kylian Mbappé after being put on goal by Neymar at the right side who fired a straight effort to find the bottom-right corner.
PSG thought they had doubled their lead when Julian Draxler converted from close range following a pass from Mbappé only to be ruled as offside.
With Neymar persistent dangers, PSG got their 2nd. Again, it was the Brazilian who sent a perfect cross to Marquinhos who controlled before slotting home after Bayern failed to deal with a corner.
Two quick changes from the host saw Bayern halving the deficit through Choupo-Moting who rose high to meet Pavard’s cross after being given plenty of space.
With 30 left to play, Bayern drew level. Another great header from Muller was enough to beat Navas at his post who rose high to steer Kimmich’s free-kick into the net.
The lead lasted less than 10 minutes before the visitors drew another blood. Again, it was Mbappé who scored his 2nd goal on the night, his 6 UCL goals in 3 games. The world cup winner beat the run of Boateng after being teed up by Di Maria, Gistongist gathered.
PSG would be happy to have scored 3 last night but it is far from over as Bayern dominated. The game remains poised.
