Surprisingly, South Africa is attempting to bring down the statues of remembrance of Apatheid-era in the nation.
Supporting the call to end it once and for all, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa said statues that uphold the fears and horrible past of the nation will not keep standing.
“Any symbol, monument or activity that glorifies racism, that represents our ugly past, has no place in democratic South Africa, the divisive statues should be relocated, we are unapologetic about this because the aim is to build a united South Africa” – Ramaphosa said.
However, the President of South Africa said people should not see the removal of the statues as putting an end to the history of the nation.
Gistongist gathered that many black South Africans supported the move to end Apatheid-era rememberance once and for all.
