The Police Command in Lagos State has deployed one thousand, two hundred and fifty Special Constables to boost security in different parts of the State.
The Constabulary is the result of various dialogues on community policing between stakeholders and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu, to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police in combating crime and criminal activities.
In an address to the passing-out parade of the Community Policing Special Constabulary Officers at the Police College, Ikeja, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said that his administration would provide everything they need to carry out their assignment most efficiently and effectively.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, charged the Special Constables not to deviate from their assigned duties of providing credible and timely intelligence on activities within their communities to the Police and appealed to Lagos residents to cooperate with them.
The Commandant of the Police College, Ikeja, Mr. Olasupo Ajani urged graduating officers to avoid any form of illegal duty in its entirety.
The Special Constables who were recruited from different communities are expected to work within their respective communities.
