On Monday, the Lagos State Police Command rescued a day-old baby boy who had been abandoned.
At about 10:20 p.m., a good Lagosian discovered the baby on Oladejo Road, Oko Oba, Lagos.
The good Samaritan was said to have informed the Abattoir Division of the command’s police operatives.
According to a statement from the police command’s spokesperson, Ademuyiwa Adejobi, officers rushed to the scene and picked up the baby for medical attention.
On Tuesday, the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, received the baby in his Ikeja office and directed the Gender Unit of the command to hand the baby over to the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development’s Child Protection Unit.
According to Adejobi, the Commissioner of Police has expressed his desire to discuss the adoption process with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development as soon as possible.
The police chief also urged women, especially young women, to stop abandoning their children.
