The creation of this film industry started in the 1960s. This was during the creation of Nollywood’s early films by historical filmmakers such as Ola Balogun, Moses Olayia, and Eddie Ugboma. They are considered the first generation of Nigerian filmmakers.
Nollywood generates about 2,500 movies a year, making it the second-largest producer after Bollywood in India, and its films have replaced American, Indian and Chinese films on TVs in Nigeria.
