The African Nation, Mali has in recent time become a blood spot following the toppling of the civilian government by the Malian army.
Reports has it that just after the president of the nation, Ibrahim Keita resigned as he was arrested alongside the prime minister of Mali, one of the soldiers have declared himself president of the nation now.
Reacting, the Economic Commission of West Africa state is said to have an emergency summit on Thursday, 20th of August 2020 to deliberate on the situation of Mali.
This is sequel to the suspension of the Nation and directive to all Ecowas nations to lockdown their borders against the country.
“ECOWAS has strongly condemned the undemocratic change of government as it is against the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. The Extra-ordinary Summit was convened following the military coup d’etat in the Republic of Mali” – the commission said in a statement on Wednesday.
Gistongist reports that the commission also ordered member states to stop trading with immediate effect.
